岡山県の伝統工芸品として約1000年の歴史を持つ備前焼。牧 沙緒里さんは、その製造過程で廃棄される陶器ごみを回収し、マグカップに生まれ変わらせました。実家が営む耐火レンガ工場では、不良品のレンガをリサイクルしていることから、その仕組みを備前焼にも応用できないかと考え取り組みをスタート。今後は、陶器ごみから再生させた備前焼を、アート作品として環境意識の高い海外市場にも届けていきたいと語る牧さんの思い描く未来とは？
Bizen ware boasts a thousand-year history as one of Okayama Prefecture’s traditional crafts. Ms. Saori Maki has taken ceramic waste that is discarded during the production process and transformed it into mug cups. Inspired by the recycling practices for defective bricks at her family’s fire brick factory, she launched this initiative to see if a similar system could be applied to Bizen ware. Ms. Maki seeks to bring this upcycled Bizen ware to environmentally conscious overseas markets, not merely as tableware, but as art. What kind of future does she envision?
