海岸や家庭のプラスチックごみからサングラスのフレームを作っている内田栄時さん。以前、フィリピンのスラム街を訪れた際、1日約100kgのごみを集めて200円ほどの収入を得ている人々を目にしました。そこで、プラスチックごみを加工し付加価値のある製品を作り売ることができれば、人々の暮らしが少しでも改善できるのではないかと考え取り組みを開始。今後は世界の貧困地域で新たな産業を生み出したいと語る内田さんの思い描く未来とは？
Mr. Eiji Uchida makes sunglass frames from plastic waste found on beaches and in homes. When he visited a slum in the Philippines, he saw people collecting 100 kg of waste daily and only earning one dollar. He began this project with the idea that if he could process plastic waste and create and sell value-added products, people’s lives might improve, even if only by just a little. Mr. Uchida says he wants to develop new industries in impoverished areas of the world. What kind of future does he envision?
